Biography

Poppy was born prematurely at 26 weeks. Poppy had a very difficult neonatal period with prolonged hospitalisation in various hospitals which included having a heart operation to close an open duct.

She developed a condition called Chronic lung disease and required oxygen for the first nearly 3 years of her life. The home oxygen has been stopped now however Poppy continues to have multiple problems with her respiratory system requiring medical attention as well as regular treatment. We now have a home nebuliser and saturation system.

Poppy's respiratory problems are closely associated with her feeding difficulties and interfere with her sleep.

Poppy can only tolerate blended food and does not communicate hunger or thirst and needs to be prompted and offered on a daily basis. Poppy continues to require baby foods which are puréed to make sure there are no lumps as she is prone to choke.

Poppy has significant development delay and severe learning difficulties . She was also diagnosed Autistic last November.
Poppy uses very simple language and uses a lot of echolalia.

She has extremely high levels of anxiety.
Poppy struggles with her mobility due to having Hypermobility, low muscle tone and weak ankle stability so wears Pedro boots and exercises are given each day.

Poppy attends a special needs school.

Poppy is a strong willed little girl with a lovely sense of humour.
