Biography

Savanagh was diagnosed with SMA at the age of 9 months when her mother noticed signs of not being able to stand on her legs or even sit up on her own. Savanagh’s mum had to take her to the hospital as she had a bad chest. The hospital told her to take her home as she had a cold but later that day Savanagh seemed to be deteriorating so her mum took her back to find out that one of Savanagh’s lungs had collapsed and she had pneumonia. The hospital took Savanagh straight to Sheffield children’s hospital where the doctors told her mum and dad she only had a few hours to live. But she pulled through and is still with us 18 years later.

In 2016 Savanagh had to go into hospital with a chest infection and she was in hospital for around a year because she was struggling with her breathing. They fitted Savanagh with a tracheotomy to help her with her breathing. Savanagh is much better now that she has had it fitted and doesn't have as many hospital admissions.
