Biography

Junaid was diagnosed antinatally the week before he was born. 1hr after birth Junaid was transferred to Birmingham Childrens Hospital and underwent his first open heart surgery. He remained in the hospital until he was 6 weeks old and was allowed home. On that day he went into heart failure and was rushed back and underwent a 2nd open heart surgery.
His heart was struggling and Junaid could not come off the ventilator so he remained on PICU until he was 4 months old and underwent another open heart surgery and had 50/50 odds of survival. All went well and he went to the ward, but contracted an infection and required 16 weeks of IV antibiotics in hospital.

When Junaid finally came home in November 2011 he got ill with a cold and was misdiagnosed with pneumonia and suffered a cardiac arrest which lasted for 30 mins. This resulted in serious brain damage and we were given 6 months for him to live. Junaid is now 4 and started pre school. He says a few words and fully understands. He cannot walk or sit but is the happiest boy you will ever meet.
