Biography

Aston was poorly from birth. He had an undiagnosed blocked bowel, at 5 days old he was rushed into Addenbrooks for surgery but while being prepped for surgery he passed the blockage. Aston left hospital weighing a whole lb lighter than when he was born. Aston never gained weight until he was diagnosed at 4 weeks old with Cystic Fibrosis. After diagnosis and the right medication he also had severe reflux, he began to gain weight. At 3 months Aston spent 3 weeks in hospital with broncilitus where he stopped breathing 3 times. This left him with damage to his lungs and a permanent wheeze. As Aston grew and his illness was managed, he was doing well, gained weight and his chest improved.

Over the years he has needed extra antibiotics to keep him well and he now goes into Great Ormond Street hospital every 3/4 months for regular IV antibiotics, but this has been a major problem as he has allergic reactions to all the ones he needs to have. So has been having allergy testing at St Thomas' hospital. Aston also had a port fitted to make it easier to have his IVs. Aston has to do lots of different meds at home which he is beginning to manage himself.
