Biography

Laura has Treacher Collins Syndrome and is deaf. Laura had her first surgery age 8 months to open up her nasal passage to help her breathe. When Laura was 18 months old she became seriously ill and spent 7 weeks in hosptial, half the time in PICU. She weighed a tiny 17lbs and was losing weight fast because she was unable to breathe properly. She had to have her nasal passages opened again and her tonsils removed, then a feeding tube placed in her tummy. She gradually became stronger and gained weight. She has had 10 other surgeries in her short life to help with breathing and to also shape her eyes better as they become extremely dry and water constantly. Her next planned surgeries are to implant her hearing aids.
