Biography

Micah was born seemingly with good health, no issues were raised at scans before birth. At 2 weeks old he became very unwell and was diagnosed with heart failure due to 3 heart defects. He was also noticed to have an oddly shaped triangular skull and some urological defects. He had a feeding tube fitted due to failure to thrive and it was later discovered that he had an unsafe swallow due to multiple airway defects. His heart defects were repaired at 6 months old in open heart surgery with 5 more surgeries before a year old for his airway issues and urological issues.
His development was delayed and although he did begin speaking, he had a large speech regression at 15 months old and was completely non-verbal until 3 years old. He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at 3. Micah also has epilepsy and is medicated for this. His skull condition, metopic craniosynostosis, was due to be surgically repaired at 18 months old but due to his other medical complexities they decided he was too high risk for surgery.
He is now 4 years old and has recently undergone another 3 surgeries for urological issues, and has many, many ongoing medical and social communication issues. Through all this Micah is a lovely and very funny little boy. He can communicate verbally now and has many passionate interests - dinosaurs, space, animals and numbers.
