Biography

Jacob was born a healthy 10lb 8oz baby in 2010. When he was around 6 months old I noticed he was still a floppy baby and wouldn't even watch me when playing with him or his toys. He spent most of his first year crying and I wasn't sure why. I kept taking him to the health visitor and they just kept saying he's a lazy baby.

When he was 13 months he still couldn't sit up so they told me he was delayed. He did everything late. When he was just over 2 he started to walk and then I noticed he was falling backwards all the time and that was when he was diagnosed with epilepsy.

He was still very delayed and the older he got the more noticeable it became. When he was 4 his seizures got worse. He started having different types and they became uncontrollable and I was told medication would not fully control them. The taller he got the worse his balance has become.

In 2019 he got a vns (vagal nerve stimulator) fitted, a little device fitted near his heart to try help control his seizures. It's not been very successful although it does tell me how many he has per day and right now it's around 150 a day. With the amount of seizures he has his development has also got worse. At his last MRI in 2021 they told me his brain has shrunk and they're not sure why. He has spurts of hyperness. It's not very much now and his balance is really bad but for a good 10mins a day he becomes very hyper.

Other than his disabilities Jacob is a very happy boy with a big beautiful smile that can light up the room. Everyone who is around him falls in love with him. He loves cuddles and being tickled. He gets very excited if you sing to him. He watches 'Get Squiggling' - it's a very old cartoon but it's the only one he loves. He has his own little squiglet teddy that a friend made for him which he has in his bed. He sleeps in a safe space bed that keeps him safe in the night and stops him banging his head during a seizure. He also loves having his sensory lights on in his bedroom.
