Biography

Leela was placed with me at 8 weeks old and initially newborn tests showed congenital hypothyroidism and congenital hip dysplasia. As she developed there were signs that things were a little delayed and she wasn’t growing as she should. There were a lot of tests and appointments and diagnosis of global developmental delay and microcephaly, and at 14 months she had an operation on her hips and casting for 6 months.

With all these things going on we felt there was a bigger thing going on and genetics got involved. The tests took 1 year to come back and we had a diagnosis of a rare genetic condition Kabuki syndrome. While all this was going on we decided to adopt Leela as she is so much more than her medical conditions. She is a ray of sunshine, she is the light of our lives, she has personality and sparkle and is larger than life itself. The love we have for her is indescribable. She struggles every day with education but loves school and tries her best. She is now an amazing 7 year old and lives her life to the fullest.
