Biography

Dennis was diagnosed at birth with down syndrome. Other than that he was a perfectly healthy baby boy.

When Dennis was only 3 months old sadly things changed, he began to show signs of regression and was diagnosed with West syndrome at 6 months old. It was downhill from then on in. Dennis was heavily sedated by medications and asleep the majority of the time.

Shortly after his diagnosis Dennis became seriously unwell at home and was rushed to hospital where he deteriorated so much that he spent time in the intensive care unit in Glasgow Children's Hospital. He was diagnosed with respiratory failure and an unsafe swallow. He spent a further 4 months in hospital before being discharged a week before his first birthday. He was sent home with oxygen and later had surgery to fit a gastrostomy in his tummy for feeding. He is completely peg fed and will remain so.

He is now a big 8 year old boy. Sadly Dennis has never learned to walk or talk and has had some more recent diagnoses of autism and spina bifida.
