Biography

J K was born prematurely. He spent the first 4 months of his life in a neonatal unit as he was very poorly suffering from seizures and struggling to breathe on his own.

During his hospital stay it was noticed that he did not respond to sounds, he was very floppy and struggled to feed with slow weight gain. After leaving hospital he was diagnosed as profoundly deaf. Later on, as he wasn’t meeting milestones, he was diagnosed as having cerebral palsy and CVI, a visual impairment commonly linked with cerebral palsy which affects how his brain processes what he sees.

When he was 2 during genetic testing he tested positive for a STK11 gene mutation which causes polyps in the gastrointestinal tract affecting his feeding. It also significantly puts him at high risk of developing certain cancers meaning he has regular testing, scopes and scans for tumours.
J K cannot sit up by himself, crawl or walk and uses a wheelchair full-time. He has dystonia and struggles to control his movements suffering from painful muscle spasms and has recently developed a curvature of the spine.
He gets tired very easily but is a cheeky, smiley little boy with a huge personality and an even bigger smile.
