Biography

Mckenzie is the youngest of twins. Both twins were born with good weights & at 38wks 2days. We had problems feeding Mckenzie at first but eventually got that sorted. Then we noticed he was not doing things at same time as twin Bryanna, but put it down to him being a lazy boy!

However, in May 2010 at their 8 month check up the doctor was concerned about Mckenzie's development and was referred to see a paediatric consultant. Bryanna intially started have some kind of seizure then Mckenzie after taking them to doctors - I was told not to worry if only lasting a few seconds!!

So we were not happy with the outcome and videoed him the following teatime for 11 mins then phoned 999. He was admitted to hospital and was kept in for 2 weeks where he was diagnosed with West Syndrome. He came home then was put on steroids at the beginning of July 2010 and on 5th August we took him back to hospital as he'd been lethargic all day and off his feeds. It was there that he stopped breathing and was resuscitated and was transferred to LGI Intensive Case. We learned he had pneumococcal meningitis was in hospital for 6 weeks. He and his twin sister have recently been diagnosed with Chromosome 15q11.2. In Mckenzie its triplicated and in Bryanna duplicated. We have just this last week learned that I and our oldest child also have chromsome 15q11.2 duplication. Mckenzie is currently been weaned off vigabatrin and is also on sodium valporate. His sister has a 50% hearing loss and needs hearing aids and has some development delay but isn't on any medication. We take every day as it comes.
