We could not keep going without you! :) 2024 Review of the YearWelcome to our review of 2024! This was the 16th year of LoveQuiltsUK - let's have a look back! Here are some statistics about 2024 and what we achieved: Total squares received in 2024: 1555 squares We are now approaching 30,000 squares - 28,342 squares at the time of writing. Total quilts delivered in 2024: 154 quilts (2 of these were emergency quilts and 23 were backfilled quilts) There are also a number of quilts ready waiting to be posted out that we held back until after the New Year due to the Christmas post chaos. Our overall quilt total is 2234 quilts since 2008. :) A massive THANK YOU to everyone involved, through stitching, quilting, creating patterns, fundraising for us this year! Thank you so much for your support - when you step back and think about the number of kind and generous people giving so many hours of their time to our project it feels quite humbling. At a conservative estimate, there is approximately 300 hours of volunteer time put in to making each quilt - therefore tens of thousands of hours per year are donated. Some stitchers have contributed over many years and others have found us and joined us more recently, but it's all one big happy LQ family:) It's lovely to see everyone sharing their projects and helping each other through our Facebook group too. We have a few people that we would like to mention specifically for their efforts this year: Kat Kat has received and uploaded all the squares we have received (a big task, and there are new squares arriving almost every day!). She also prepares and sends out quilt packs to quilters each month. This has been done while working in a full-time caring job with very long hours. Well done Kat for everything you do for LQUK! Gaynor Gaynor has continued sourcing fabric to send on to Kat, doing the administration and generally keeping things going on the IT front. Thank you, Gaynor. Mrs T Mrs T is now in her 80s, so Gaynor tries not to ask her to do too much, but she has still handled some of the fabric washing this year, particular in the summer time as her drying facilities are superior! Thank you Mrs T for all your help. Leanda and Heather Leanda and Heather have supported Gaynor and Kat a lot in the background - for example locating squares that have jumped on to the wrong quilt page on the website, tidying up the contents of the kids' profile, approving new members to the Facebook group, helping to suggest sets of squares for backfills and more. Your support is very much appreciated, ladies! Spotting duplicate signups Thanks to Sandra, Jan G, Leanda and Heather who have been helping Gaynor to spot duplicate signups this year and helping to keep the quilts in order in this respect. It is not always easy to spot a duplicate signup so their encyclopedic knowledge of what patterns have appeared in different books/magazines is very valuable! Cards Thank you Sandra (Wright) for organising the cards we send out with the quilts via our Facebook group, and made other arrangements if they didn't arrive for whatever reason, sometimes at short notice! Backfilled quilts Jan Garton who has created the majority of the labels for backfilled quilts this year, often at short notice. This allows us the flexibility to fit in extra quilts when a quilter is available. Thank you so much Jan it is a massive help to us and has made an extra 23 quilts possible in 2024. Thank you also to those who sent in cards to be held in reserve for backfilled quilts, and to Sandra for organising these, it is really appreciated. Pattern listing We maintain a separate Pattern Listing of patterns created for LQUK. Christina McDonald has been quietly keeping it maintained for us again in 2024 and linking pictures of stitched patterns to the listings so that stitchers can look through them more easily. Thank you Christina for your continued work on this resource :) Pattern creators Thank you so much for those who created patterns for our Pattern listing this year. We have extended our collection this year again. We have a large collection of legal charts now which makes themes involving copyrighted characters such as Disney/Marvel/DC possible, and keeps costs of buying patterns down for our stitchers. We'd also like to thank the test stitchers for Merete who have been helping her to get her Princesses (and other) patterns right. Thank you to everyone involved. Chart permission Clare Bray has continued to be our chief negotiator for permission to chart copyrighted characters for our patterns. There are so many permissions secured now that we have nearly everything we need, although new TV shows continue to crop up and are requested for quilts! Clare has continued the Paw Patrol conversation with the makers and she is currently working on securing permission for Barbie. She also keeps us on the right path by answering questions on copyright and having all the information at her finger-tips! Thank you, Clare! Emergency Quilts Many thanks to Leanda and Heather for continuing to store the emergency quilt stash and sending them out quickly when necessary. Fundraising We have managed to keep finding funds to keep us going for another year. We really appreciate the support with this, especially in continued difficult economic times. We often focus on the quilts and the kids, but we cannot do any of it without donations! A special mention to the below who organised specific fundraising efforts (Please let us know if we've left anyone out so we can add you) A massive thank you to the above for their efforts of LQUK. Easyfundraising Thank you to everyone who has used the Easyfundraising.co.uk this year, and also those who have taken part in the Easyfundraising "extra" competitions such as "Summer of Sport". This year we received a huge £877.62 from Easyfundraising. All those small cashbacks really do add up! Back in January we also won an extra £50 donation from EasyFundraising.org.uk and we were also featured on the EasyFundraising blog and social media! Also, a massive thank you for everyone who has quietly sent in cash, cheques, Paypal donations, etc. this year it has been very gratefully received. Thank you so much once again to you all! Support from Businesses - Aida Thank you to Kim Hubble who has offered discount Aida via our Facebook group. Thank you to Zoe's Gifts and Crafts who have catered to LQUK stitchers by doing a special price for 13" x 13" squares. Also thank you to Kate of Lakeside Needlecraft who have catered to LQUK stitchers by selling Aida in our required size (13 x 13 inches). In Memoriam We would like to pay tribute to Libby C who sadly passed away recently. We send her family lots of love. And finally... We'd like to take a look back at the quilts that were delivered this year. A vast amount of time and effort has gone into the following quilts, thank you so much to everyone who contributed to them!
Once again, a very big thank you to you all. We look forward to continuing the LQUK work into 2025, which will be our 17th year! A very Happy New Year 2025 to you all! Katherine and Gaynor x |
