Biography

Amine was diagnosed with CF at 2 weeks old from the heel prick test (newborn screening). During the first two weeks Amine was very symptomatic however no one knew or picked this up until the NB screening results came in. He lost a lot of weight...he was born weighing 4kg and within two weeks went down to 3kg. He was not able to keep his milk down as it contained fat which is something his stomach was unable to digest as it needed replacement enzymes. This is why Amine needs a medicine called Creon every time he eats foods which contain fats. He also has a lot of chest infections and has been admitted into hospital 9 times since birth.

As a result of this Amine had to undergo a small operation to have a portacath fitted in his chest to help access his veins for when he needed IV antibiotics. Amine takes up to 40 tablets/capsules of medicine a day. nebulized antibiotics and dnase (to thin the mucus in his lungs) he also has physiotherapy twice a day to clear the mucus build up in his lungs. clear lungs means that he is less likely to pick up infections. Amine is a very active happy little boy who has an older brother (without CF) and a younger brother Adam who also has Cystic Fibrosis. He never lets CF get the better of him and takes all his treatment with a smile on his face.
