Biography

Eliana is 10. She is gentle and courageous, strong and compassionate. She is wise beyond her years and quietly determined.

Eliana came into the world prematurely and suffered from oxygen deprivation at birth. At six months she made no attempt to follow lights and we believed that she was unable to see. She missed motor milestones but initially it was thought that this was due to visual impairment.

At 18 months old, with increasing vision, it was apparent that there was significant motor delay caused by a brain injury.

At just under 3 years old she underwent her first eye surgery and this was closely followed by SDR surgery to try and increase her mobility.

Following intensive physio and rehabilitation she had muscle lengthening in 2019, more eye surgery in 2022 and is having more surgery on her leg next month.

We know that this will not be the last of the surgical intervention. Her right leg has not grown as fast as her left and at some point there will be more surgery to correct this. She had opted to put back more eye surgery for a while. She felt that she needed a break!
