BiographyAntonia was born at 26+4 weeks, weighing a tiny 1lb5oz. After birth Antonia had lots of different tests done; she had an MRI, numerous scans and blood tests as well as a Hickman line insertion as she was struggling to put on weight, as well as lots of genetic testing.
Antonia spent 6 months in the nicu. She was discharged from the hospital with oxygen and also a feeding tube. The next couple of years were great.
At the age of 3 Antonia`s epilepsy had a bad breakthrough and she spent a couple of months in hospital so we could get it back under control. Then at the age of 4 Antonia suffered her first chest infection and was admitted into hospital and required some help with her breathing. At this point Antonia was diagnosed with Dystonia. Antonia was then in and out of hospital with mild chest infections.
In April 2024 Antonia had a really bad turn and required a blood transfusion which then led to her first PICU admission. Antonia was intubated in our local hospital and blue lighted to a specialist Children's hospital, where she received the most amazing care. Antonia was intubated for 9 days.
Antonia has caught 12 different viruses and infections all at the same time. She had one of the highest infection markers the hospital had seen. But the fighter in her absolutely pulled through. Antonia is due to go back to school in September now she is back to her normal self.
