Biography

Delilah was born in the middle of Covid and was always a very well child and a very strong willed personality. About a month before her 3rd birthday she began to get recurring high temperatures with no other symptoms. She was taken to her local GP several times with the answer being given as “viral” but the more frequent they became the more we knew something wasn’t right. We were in and out of the doctors for a week as they stuck to the viral diagnosis until red marks appeared on her neck which they suspected could be meningitis, so we went straight to the hospital. They took bloods and kept us overnight, only to be told it was actually leukaemia.

From there was just a rollercoaster of appointments and feeling like the whole world was collapsing. Within a week we were in John Radcliffe Oxford having tests and a Hickman line inserted. Whilst having a bone marrow aspiration it was discovered that her leukaemia was Philadelphia positive making it slightly more tricky! Since July last year Delilah has undergone so much treatment including a 3 month stay in Oxford over Christmas receiving treatment. We are currently in maintenance so hoping for a better Christmas this year and not as full on treatment but she is still going through a lot. She has done incredibly well at still remaining happy and smiling throughout the experience, we are just extremely grateful for the kindness we have been shown by so many lovely people during this difficult time.
