Biography

Layla was and always has been such an amazing sprit, her enthusiasm, smiles and laughs have been constant since the moment she could lift her head. She’s extremely outgoing and sarcastic. Unfortunately around her 2nd birthday she started getting very ill. Went from ear aches, diarrhoea, fevers, weight loss, stiff walking, body aches and sickness. We spent 2/3 months trying to get answers from countless GP and hospital visits. No one could tell us what it was until the very last test she had, an X-ray of her chest was completed. It showed a mass they told me it was either a calcification or a tumour. Sadly it was the worst.

We got transferred to the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital and it was test after test after test, and that’s when we were told she was high risk stage 4, our world was flipped upside down and inside out. She had a tumour above her kidney and another above her liver. I can’t even remember the number of bone lesions she had. After 11 months of heavy intense treatment things were looking up and it seemed the cancer had gone away. She had just 2 months left of treatment and that’s when we were told it was back again and this time more aggressive with a tumour growing on her spine. Any growth will sadly cause paralysis, her chance of survival is now at less than 5%.

Unfortunately because she’s had all the intense treatment she cannot repeat it as she relapsed during treatment. So a steady few months of chemo and hopefully a trial can help somewhat.

Despite all this, she’s incredibly strong and resilient and she is fighting this horrid disease, she is an inspiration to us. Her personality hasn’t dimmed, she still shines as bright as she did before.
Our Layla, the rainbow princess
