Biography

Penelope was born in October 2023 and, at just 16 days old, was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. Her first two years were filled with hospital appointments, admissions and uncertainty, but throughout it all she remained the happiest, bravest little girl.

In November 2024, Penelope became critically unwell and suffered a cardiac arrest. She spent three weeks on ECMO before receiving a Berlin Heart in December, which kept her alive while she waited for the most precious gift of all.

On 3 October 2025, just before her second birthday, Penelope received her donor heart. Her transplant gave her the chance to leave hospital behind and experience childhood properly for the first time.

Now nearly three, Penelope is thriving. She is full of personality, loves role play, babies, doctors and animals, and has spent the most wonderful year making memories with her family. We will always be incredibly grateful to her donor and his family for giving Penelope the gift of life.
