Biography

Rowan never really grew from day 1. At 6 weeks old we began our journey in and out of hospital to try and get him to gain weight. We tried everything. Surgical tubes, naso tubes, tubes into his bowel, everything. At 18 months old he was in a very grave state, he weighed just 9lb 12oz. The same size as a newborn baby. This was when they put him on TPN. He has slowly gained weight but as he gains weight, other problems have come to light, from endocrine problems to gastro problems, to muscle problems.

The most recent problem is the constant pain that he is in, but he refuses to let anything get him down, puts a big smile on his face, goes to nursery like every other 4 year old, even though it causes him so much pain. We were at GOSH at the end of May, and they were unable to do the tests he needed as he had an infection in his hickman line, and then they were unable to perform some of the other tests because his gut wasn't working properly, so we have to go back for the tests again. He appears to be like every other 4 year old (just the size of a 2 year old) but goes through so much to be able to do that, he's a very fragile little boy really.
