BiographyFreddie was born a very happy and healthy baby. He passed all of his initial health checks and there were no concerns. He was developing well but we started to notice his breathing was off and he was making ‘grunting’ noises when he did so. We were back and forth to the doctors with no answers other than “it’s a virus” or “I don’t know what it is but he looks ok.” Eventually we were given an appointment at our local hospital where Freddie had an echo and an ECG. He was immediately referred to Alder Hey Children’s hospital and it was here we were given Freddie’s diagnosis and told he would need a heart transplant in order to survive.
We got a year at home as a family (with several hospital stays in between) but Freddie was admitted to Alder Hey October 22 and we have been here ever since, listed on the urgent heart transplant list. He has spent almost a year in hospital - Christmas, birthdays and plenty of other things being missed in the process. Throughout his stay, he has battled many things including 2 intubated trips on ICU but is just the happiest little boy you’ll ever meet. Freddie is waiting for that call that will change his life - a call that a family somewhere, although through their own heartache, has made the decision to donate a heart.
