Biography

Ioan was born in Germany in December 07. He wasn't diagnosed at birth because they didn't do the heel prick test.

We moved back to the UK in 2011. We noticed he was finding it difficult to run, jump, climb stairs in late 2012. We saw a local GP who explored some and later a referral went into the child health department.

Eventually we were seen in late 2013 and the Dr told us to keep up the exercise and things should improve. I insisted I saw them again in 6 months.

We went back to see the same Dr in summer of 2014. Ioan was wearing shorts. She noticed his enlarged calves and sent us for blood tests. They came back with high ck levels meaning he had a type of muscular dystrophy. We saw the consultant in the November 2014 and Iaon was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

He started steroids immediately to prevent muscle wasting. He became a full time wheelchair user when he was 10 in 2017. He took he last independent steps on our flight to America.

He goes to college full time and enjoys playing video games and going out for food.
