Biography

Matilda was born by emergency c-section as her heart beat kept dropping and rising whilst I was in labour. When she was born they didn’t know if she was Down’s Syndrome so we had genetic testing through Birmingham Hospital and they found out she had partial trisomy chromosome 9p.
Matilda has hypermobility too so all her joints can come out of socket causing pain, tiredness, weakness and breakages.
She has also glue ear and astigmatism in both eyes so wears glasses full time.
Through the chromosome 9p she has global delay so learns a lot more slowly than other children and has no danger awareness for anything. Matilda also suffers with stress and anxiety so anything can trigger a meltdown daily be it new shoes or roadworks.
She is in pain daily at the minute as the hypermobilty causes stomach problems as it affects all the muscles and this then causes stomach cramps.
Matilda is non-verbal but has good understanding so we have our own way of communicating and also Makaton signing.
